DANCE FACTS
Kirsten started dancing at the age of five and never stopped. She began with Jazz and Classical Ballet, briefly dabbling with Tap Dancing as well. She was fortunate to undertake dance classes through her school as an extracurricular activity and eventually to take classes with Bartuccio’s in Melbourne.
Kirsten went on to become a full-time student at the Dance Factory in Melbourne and graduated with a Certificate III in Musical Theatre and Commercial Dance. It was during her full-time studies that she was reintroduced to tap and it has been a style she has added to her repertoire ever since.
Kirsten has had over 20 years of teaching experience which began when she took over the role of Director/Choreographer for the Melbourne Rockets Performance Troupe. This led to teaching at Monash University in the short course department where she taught Jazz Funk Dance for many years. Kirsten has also taught for CAE, in various schools around Melbourne and she has choreographed many school productions and amateur theatre stage shows.
Kirsten has appeared in a few film clips and has undertaken work in TV and film, as well as being heavily involved in children’s theatre (her other great love is acting).
Kirsten has a rather unique style in which she incorporates her love of Jazz and Swing Dancing into her routines. Kirsten loves teaching and being part of each individual’s tap-dancing journey. Seeing a student improve and gain confidence gives her great joy. She is proud of the fact that her school is all-inclusive, a place where no one is judged and absolutely everyone is welcome. Performances are optional for anyone who would like to take part. Kirsten looks forward to welcoming you to K-Tap soon.
FUN FACTS ABOUT KIRSTEN
Kirsten is a big kid. Her favourite food is ice cream. She has a sweet tooth and loves chocolate and lollies. She is an animal lover and has hand reared many a baby bird. Over the years there have been many cats (all strays), a few inherited rabbits and she wouldn’t be without a dog or two. Kirsten considers her pets as family members – they are all loved and adored. Aside from being around her family and friends and of course all her tap students, Kirsten is happiest while donning her mouse ears. She is a huge Mickey Mouse fan, (well Disney fan, though Mickey is her absolute favourite) and is most happy at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland.
Kirsten’s classes incorporate this sense of fun and she cannot wait to share with you her passion and love of tap plus everything Mickey.
